Personal Ancestral File 4.0 is a new Windows® based version of one of the most widely-used genealogical management programs for home computers. The popular new software program can be downloaded free of charge via the Internet. PAF 4.0 does not provide genealogical data. Instead, its program helps users organize their family history records. It can produce, in automated or manual form, records for personal family histories or charts and logs to help users in their search for missing ancestors. An updated version 4.0.2 with a new download size of 3.55MB was released in September 1999. This version has "bug" fixes and new features, including the following: search and replace place-names and multimedia file names; include multimedia when exporting GEDCOM files; edit Ancestral File numbers (AFNs); personal names and dates; search FamilySearch Internet; and merge duplicate source citations |

The LDS church have now made the IGI for North America, British Isles and Finland freely available online. Details of millions of christenings and marriages are included and the databases can be searched quickly and easily. The IGI is widely acknowledged as an important resource for genealogy research and now it is can be accessed on line. |

Trying to contact people in the UK? British Telecom have recently put their phone database on the web. Very up to date, this is a useful tool for finding potential long lost cousins.
